As they say, “Bigger is not always better”. There are quite a few appeals in living on places with small spaces especially for people living alone.  The trick is how to maximise your space to be able to get that great place even if the space is small.

Below are a few tips that can help you on how to maximise your space;

  1. Tips for tenantsMaximise your lighting – Bring in as much natural light as you can. Use drapes that allow maximum light on your windows and add mirrors or any reflective surfaces nearby. This will help to give the illusion of added space on your home.
  2. Shelves are a must haves- You can use floating or wall-mounted shelves above other furniture or on doorways.
  3. multi-functional furnitursBuy simple multi-functional furniture-You will be surprised how easy to is to find custom built furniture’s that had extra functions like a bed with a built in storage.
  4. Every corner counts.  Use every available empty space.
  5. Use upholstered furniture’s with legs that give them floor clearance to add the visual illusion of spaciousness
  6. Let it go- The key to having an organised home is to learn to let go of things you don’t really use or need.  Buy things with care and focus on necessity rather than on impulse.  If you don’t love it or use it anymore; then let it go.

Renting or buying smaller apartments are not for everyone.  Some people choose to because it is easier to maintain and organise. Furthermore, smaller space means more energy efficient. Looking for that perfect place? Be sure to check out our Find a Property page
